Two Super Fun Ways to Spark Your Kiddos’ Imaginations at Home!

One of my absolute favorite things about having kids is hearing the amazing things they say.  Completely uninhibited and untethered to boring old reality.  And while there is typically no shortage of creativity and imaginary play, these are two fun, easy, and inexpensive ways to add some additional pizazz (and learning!) to the mix.

1.  Table Talk – These little conversation-prompting cards are split into six categories: (1) philanthropy; (2) community; (3) family; (4) friendship; (5) world; and (6) self.  They ask questions ranging from “What is your favorite book and why?” to “Can one person change the world? Why or why not?”  I love that these questions promote deeply reflective thinking, and stimulate conversation among the entire family.  And by including topics like philanthropy, they help bring awareness of the world, and foster a service-based, outward-focused mindset in our kids at an early age.  They’re also wonderful companions for road trips, or a simple dinner out.  We often like to do these over breakfast to start the day with some meaningful and fun family conversation!

2.  Early Story Starters – This activity is not limited to kiddos who can read and write, though it’s a wonderful tool for our emerging writers.  These story starters offer creative and cute starts to sentences to get kids’ creative juices flowing – “The yellow fish swam swiftly through the . . .” or “We crossed the rickety old bridge and saw . . .”  For older kids, this is an awesome way to practice penmanship, spelling, creative vocabulary, and use of punctuation.  And for the littles, this is a great way to invite them to verbally tell creative stories!  Like Table Talk, this can be a super fun family activity.

Especially while we’re mostly staying at home, unable to take our normal family trips or explore the world as much as we’d like, it’s helpful to have some tools in the toolbox that stimulate our kiddos’ imaginations!  I hope you enjoy these fun family activities like we have!
